Medical Needs Rabbit: Miles

Miles arrived at a county shelter covered as a stray rabbit, covered in fleas and dirt, both eyes swollen shut. He was diagnosed with E. Cuniculi, dental disease, eye issues and an ear infection.

We have managed to resolve all of the issues except for his eyes. He will need long-term care for his eyes now.

Ongoing medical care needs: daily eye meds, regular visits to the eye doctor to maintain his eye health.

UPDATE MARCH 7, 2025: Since our last update, Miles has been keeping up with his regular vet visits. He had a dental trim in February, and per our vet’s recommendation, he’ll now be getting rechecks every four weeks to stay on top of his dental health. In addition, he continues to have routine eye exams with a specialist to monitor his ongoing eye issues.

Miles has also been dealing with some pretty "mean" looking sore hocks, but his amazing foster mom makes sure his bandages stay clean and fresh to keep him as comfortable as possible. To help with healing, Miles has also been receiving laser treatment for his sore hocks, giving him some extra relief.

Just the other morning, his foster mom noticed something was off—Miles was lethargic, quiet, and uninterested in his favorite foods (even treats!). Knowing this wasn’t like him, she took him to the vet right away. The vet suspected a small "hairball" was causing discomfort, likely due to needing another dental trim. After a quick trim, some fluids, and medication, Miles is already doing much better!

We’re so grateful for his attentive foster mom and our vet team for catching issues early and keeping Miles happy and healthy. We’ll keep you posted on his progress—keep sending Miles all the good vibes!
