Shelter Manager

Position Summary:
The Shelter Manager is responsible for overseeing the general day-to-day operations of SDHRS (including the store). This position will manage staff and volunteers, maintain facilities and equipment, interact with the public and ensure that shelter animals receive proper care.
Compensation:
The Shelter Manager will be exempt status and receive salaried compensation with sick and vacation benefits
Annual Pay: $71,760.00

Job Hours:
Days of duty: Minimum 40 hour work week with a minimum of 4 days being at the shelter
General Duties & Responsibilities
Overseeing the care and treatment of animals at the shelter
Managing shelter staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, and scheduling
Ensure adequate staffing coverage and maintain scheduling and time off requests for all staff
Partner with administration to deliver employee assessment, evaluation, hiring and disciplinary action
Ensuring the shelter facilities are clean, safe, and meet legal standards
Working with veterinarians and/or staff vet tech to ensure all animals receive necessary medical care
Oversees the administration of the receiving team to administer vaccinations, medications and treatments of animals as prescribed by the veterinarian or as provided in written policies and procedures. Coordinates with the medical staff to schedule spays/neuters and other surgeries as needed
Responsible for delegating work tasks, addressing employee and volunteer concerns and enforcing policies. (SOP)
Works closely with the Team Lead to ensure training of volunteers handling rabbits and identify appropriate tasks
Perform customer service duties such as giving facility tours, instructing customers about proper animal care, dealing with complaints.
Maintain and keep proper records for the shelter and the store.
Monitor and purchase various supplies including but not limited to cleaning and care supplies, animal food, and office supplies to ensure adequate stock
Monitor and purchase store inventory
Sets guidelines and monitors conduct of works to ensure humane treatment of animals
Implementing and maintain adoption programs to find homes for the animals
Implementing and maintain the shelter boarding program
Implementing and maintain foster program
Collaborates with the veterinary and foster teams to determine animals in need of foster placement
Developing and managing the shelter and store’s budget
Overseeing and/or participating in events with regards to the shelter and store, examples include:
Fundraising events such Bunnyfest and Vaccine Clinics
Pet Store expos
Shelter management seminars or events
Networking with other shelters
Representing the shelter at community events and in the media
Serve as the primary point of contact for our municipality partners and their officers/agents and work to maintain excellent communication and relationships
Managing the education program for the organization
Providing education and outreach to the community about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare
Studies and gives revisions to procedures for efficiency and follows policies set by the Executive Director.
Enforce Safety Rules, cooperating with staff to solve problems, keeping time records, inspecting the whole facility and interviewing and training new employees.
Participate in our Culture of Philanthropy by creating, promoting and attending community outreach,education and fundraising events for the organization and educating guests on our lifesaving programs and inspiring them to donate
Be available to staff when needed.
Assist on projects as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications
Minimum BA/BS degree
Must maintain a valid Driver's License
Previous animal handling experience preferred
Must be proficient in G-suite and Microsoft office software and can learn new computer software
Must have experience in animal welfare
Previous experience in volunteering at an animal shelter preferred.
Previous experience in managing staff or volunteers preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required to Perform the Job
Ability to problem-solve, multi-task and have excellent organizational skills. Familiarity with Microsoft computer programs. Good communication skills and speaking with the public, both written and verbal.
