SDHRS and Dr. Chelsea Dillon are teaming up to offer our lower cost RHDV2 vaccine clinic from. Cost is $80.00 per rabbit (2 dose vaccine/pre-vaccine exam included). Please note, you will be required to schedule your 2nd dose for your rabbit at check-out from your first vaccine exam. This is a fundraiser for SDHRS.

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious and deadly disease caused by a caliciviral that affects both wild and domestic rabbits. It is not contagious to people or other animals. For the first time, the virus is causing deaths in rabbits and hares native to North America and is spreading rapidly.

Even if your rabbit is kept inside, they are still at risk of becoming infected with RHDV2. While RHDV2 only affects rabbits, the disease can be transmitted to them by people or animals through contact with objects, animals, insects, or predator feces contaminated by the virus.

A vaccine is required annually to continue protection against RHDV. Even with indoor rabbits, vaccination is expected to be effective for most rabbits - it may not prevent disease in 100% of cases, but if vaccinated, it helps rabbits survive if exposed to RHDV.
